Matariki

What is Matariki?
Matariki is the Maori  name for groups of stars also known as the Pleiades Star cluster or the seven sisters.

When is it celebrated?
It is celebrated in early June every year.

Why is it important to NZ?
It is important to New Zealanders because it represents our Maori culture.
Who celebrates Matariki?
Everyone in NZ.
How is Matariki celebrated?
By lighting fireworks and being together as a whanau.

Matariki is an important time for all New Zealanders.
